Stevenage v Cambridge United Betting Tip
Perhaps the most intriguing of the Boxing Day League Two matches is between play-off chasers Stevenage and Cambridge United.
Stevenage may only be one point off the play-offs in 9th position but they are the epitome of inconsistency with their last five matches reading W,L,W,L,W. However, they are good enough and in prime position to be one of the teams that makes a late surge for the play-off places in the second half of the season.
Goals are commonplace at Boro matches with Darren Sarll’s team scoring 32, which rivals most teams in the top seven, and conceding 32 – the same number as the bottom two sides in the league. Clearly going forward is not a problem, but Stevenage will need to sort out that back-line to make that previously mentioned promotion challenge become a reality.
If we go by the earlier stat showing their inconsistency, we can see that Stevenage are due a loss and this case is made even greater when you look at Boro’s home record. Stevenage have only taken one point from a possible 18 at Broadway Hall since the end of September – not an ideal situation when welcoming a fellow play-off rival in a crunch match.
Cambridge United occupy that coveted play-off spot, sitting in 7th, one point ahead of 8th place Blackpool.
The U’s had been on a similar run of inconsistency to Stevenage a few weeks ago but managed to come out of it and have subsequently won four matches on the bounce, scoring ten and conceding just two.
Shaun Derry’s team are the sort of example that Stevenage want to follow as they manage to score a decent number of goals whilst remaining solid at the back.
Cambridge’s away form is the exact opposite of Stevenage’s home form with The U’s not losing a match on their travels since mid-September, whilst they have been even more impressive in recent weeks with four consecutive wins away from the Abbey Stadium.
Stevenage have been made the favourites for this match and, given the circumstances, particularly in terms of both home and away form of the two sides, I cannot understand why. With this in mind, ‘Cambridge United to Win’ at a surprisingly high 2/1, is certainly a bet worth being on.
