The FA Cup weekend is headlined by non-league side Sutton United’s match against Arsenal in which the hosts will want to replicate fellow non-leaguer’s Lincoln City’s success against Premier League Burnley on Saturday.

There is no doubt that the focus has been fully on this FA Cup tie for Sutton and they have taken their foot off the gas in the National League, losing their last three matches in all competitions and scoring just once since their historic victory against Leeds United in the last round of the FA Cup. The players have probably been trying to make sure they do not get injured for the Arsenal match rather than looking to win league games.

Goals have been the main problem for The Yellows in the National League so far this campaign with just 32 scored in 30 games, however, the FA Cup has brought the best out of their attacking players and in the likes of Matt Tubbs and Roarie Deacon they carry a threat going forward.

Paul Doswell’s side have been better at the back, particularly in the cup where they have only conceded once in their last three matches.

With Sutton’s away form so bad in the National League, results at Gander Green lane have had to be good and they generally have been with 30 points taken from 15 league matches. Additionally, that infamous artificial surface gives them an advantage over any side in this competition.

Arsenal are under even more pressure going into this cup tie following their embarrassing defeat away at Bayern Munich in the Champions League last Wednesday. There is no way they will win the Premier League title this season and so they really must progress in the FA Cup.

There is no doubt surrounding Arsenal’s attacking prowess and they can score bucket loads against most sides in Europe. However, over the last few seasons, all of which has come to a head this week, we have seen that their vulnerable defence and weak mentality in high-pressure games can be got at.

After a run of three consecutive victories on the road, Arsene Wenger’s side have lost their last two matches away from the Emirates. A trip to Gander Green Lane is hardly as daunting as going to the Allianz Arena but it is still a tough task nonetheless.

The Gunners are of course the favourites here and, in terms of quality, they should overcome Sutton United with relative ease. However, will the problems with their mentality hurt them once again against the non-leaguers?

If Arsenal put out a young side then I really fear for them here as I am not sure they will be prepared for the rough and tumble of Sutton United. With this shock-factor in mind, a result-neutral bet here of ‘Over 2.5 Goals & Both Teams to Score’, at 11/8, looks good. Sutton have proved themselves to be more than capable of hurting teams at a higher level and can score here despite the odds being against them, but Arsenal should also make use of their superior quality.
