Having claimed an impressive away-day victory against Liverpool last time out, Swansea welcome Southampton to the Liberty Stadium on Tuesday night.

As expected, Southampton lost to Arsenal in the FA Cup but two big questions emerged from that match. Firstly, how were Southampton so poor as they slumped to a 5-0 thrashing? And secondly, why did Claude Puel field such an under strength XI? The Saints had already reached the League Cup final and making the European spots this season seems unlikely, so you do have to question why the manager chose to play his reserves at home in a winnable game?

These sort of results usually hit the morale of the whole squad and can potentially be very damaging going into the next match in which they face an opponent in the form of Swansea who are highly motivated and fighting for their lives.

Swansea’s two victories in their last three matches demonstrated that there has been a positive reaction since the long-awaited dismissal of American head coach Bob Bradley. The 3-2 victory over Liverpool at Anfield was well deserved and not only showed the Swans’ desire but also that they are capable of playing quality football and, more importantly, getting positive results.

The fact that Llorente and Sigurðsson will be playing against a central defensive partnership that has not played together before in the form of Yoshida and Stevens means that Swansea have every chance of causing Southampton real problems here.

The Swans will have gained plenty of confidence from that victory at Anfield and, at odds of 12/5, look a really good bet to continue winning now back in front of their own fans.
