Paddy Pimblett vs Kazula Vargas

Paddy “The Baddy” Pimblett (17-3) fights on home turf for the first time in his UFC career in just his second fight for MMA’s top promotion as he takes on Kazula Vargas (12-4).

Both fighters come into this one with similar levels of experience as they look to make their mark in the UFC Lightweight Division.

Pimblett got off to a brilliant start in the UFC with a round one KO of Luigi Vendramini in Las Vegas, while Vargas has found things a bit harder, losing his first two UFC fights, albeit one by disqualification due to an illegal knee, before rebounding in April last year with a unanimous decision over Rong Zhu at UFC 261.

“The Baddy” is the more balanced fighter on paper with 35% of his wins coming by KO/TKO, 41% by submission and 24% by decision, while Vargas has won 58% of his fights by KO/TKO, 25% by submission and just 17% by decision.

Pimblett is a former Cage Warriors Featherweight Champion and has made the permanent jump up to the Lightweight division, while Vargas is a former Welterweight fighter who has dropped down a weight class.

It remains to be seen how this will affect matters, but Pimblett is slightly taller at 5’10” compared to Vargas’ 5’8” frame, while Pimblett also carries a slight 1.5-inch reach advantage over Vargas.

Prediction

There are similar levels of hype for Pimblett as there was for former UFC double champion Conor McGregor when he first made it to UFC.

For Pimblett to get off to a similar trajectory he has to back up his own words with a convincing victory here. We are confident this will happen and Pimblett can steal the show. However, the price of 1.17 for a Pimblett win is prohibitive.

Two of Pimblett’s six KO/TKO victories have come in his last two fights, prior to that his last TKO came all the way back in 2016. It is often said that you lose a lot of power depleting your body in the rigorous weight cuts the fighters go through. The results since Pimblett moved from 145 pounds to 155 pounds are there to see.

William Hill have enhanced the price of a Pimblett KO/TKO/DQ win from 3.0 to 3.5 and we believe this will come in.

A round one win has also been achieved in Pimblett’s last two fights and this is the round he has won most of his fights in. This can be backed at 2.5.
