Utah Jazz looking for a fourth win to advance
After the surprise wake-up call defeat in the first match of the series, the Jazz won the next three games and now lead the series 3-1 and are in need of one win to advance to the conference semi-finals. The Utah jazz proved once again they are a major contender to go far in this year’s playoffs after showing a very stable form in the last three games.
Donovan Mitchel led his team and the game with 30 points coupled with eight assists. After missing the first match of the series which led to the Jazz’s loss, Mitchel is having solid performances scoring 27 points per game on average. Jordan Clarkson had a great game off the bench scoring 24 points with four shots from the arc of three points.
Memphis Grizzlies need to improve
The Grizzlies couldn’t build on their win in Salt Lake City in game one and lost both their matches at the FedExForum in Memphis. They are now just one loss away from elimination and they need to find the form they had when they beat the Warriors in the Play-in game and won game one.
Coach Taylor Jenkins needs to find a solution for Utah’s Donovan Mitchel as his team still doesn’t have the answers to Mitchel’s sovereignty in the past three matches. On the other hand, Memphis can’t rely on Jo Morant to have the majority contribution in scoring, and other players need to step up as the Jazz have found the way to limit Morant’s offensive skills.
Key Stats
- Utah have made a league-high 67 three-pointers in four matches in the playoffs
- Utah have an average of 122.8 points per game in the playoffs
- Memphis have an average of 116.3 points per game in the playoffs
- Memphis have an average of 46.9% field goals in the playoffs
Utah Jazz vs Memphis Grizzlies Prediction
The last three games of the series has shown what an important player Donovan Mitchel is to his team. Not only because of his offensive contribution but also defensively he has helped his team to limit the Grizzlies’ Jo Morant from scoring 47 points in game two to under the ’30s in games three and four.
Coach Quin Snyder will be happy to keep the same style of play, closing on Morant and giving the initiative to other players in the Memphis lineup. Meanwhile, coach Jenkins has no other choice than to play much tougher defense and hope most of his players are offensively effective on the day.
We think Memphis will put up a fight but it might not be enough to stop Utah from sealing the deal.
