Botswana to clash with Ghana in AFCON training camp

Ghana will clash with their 2012 Africa Cup of Nations Group opponents Botswana in South Africa for pre-tournament camping.

The Zebras will go into camp on 12 December ahead of their Group D opener against the Black Stars on 24 January in Franceville.

The Southern African country will also camp in Qatar and Cameroon to fortify their squad for the continent's flagship event.

Botswana Football Association (BFA) president David Fani told a media briefing on Wednesday that they have finalised the Zebras' programme.

He said that they have reached an agreement with the Botswana Premier League (BPL) that the league breaks on 11 December until the Zebras return from the AFCON finals.

He said that the team proceeds to Rustenburg, South Africa, on December 13 where they will camp until 23 December.

From South Africa, the Zebras will then travel to Qatar in the Middle East where they will use facilities at Aspire Academy before returning home on 4 January.

Bostwana will test their preparedness for the tournament with a friendly encounter against Zimbabwe on 8 January.

"Our intention is to move the game to January 7 because we want to organise a send-off ceremony for the Zebras on the 8th," he said.

The match will also act as a send-off for the team. He disclosed that they have agreed in principle with Zambia for another friendly encounter in January.

Cameroon will be the last destination for the Zebras before they head for Gabon.

Fani said the team would spend 10 days in Cameroon from January 10.

He said they chose Cameroon since it is closer to Gabon and therefore would help the Zebras acclimatise.

"We are convinced that if the team could go through the entire programme, they would be in a better shape," he said.
