Bournemouth frustrated in draw at Hull

Published on: 28 August 2021

This was the first meeting in any competition between Hull and Bournemouth since January 2017 in the Premier League when the Tigers won 3-1

Bournemouth were left frustrated in a goalless draw by a dogged Hull City.

Cherries striker Dominic Solanke was denied three times by Tigers goalkeeper Matt Ingram.

Hull, who started the game brightly, found chances harder to come by, although they did hit the crossbar through Greg Docherty.

Randell Williams also fired narrowly wide late on for the hosts but both sides had to settle for a point.

Promoted Hull got their Championship campaign off to a great start, with a 4-1 win at Preston on the opening day, but had picked up just one point in the subsequent three games.

Bournemouth, meanwhile, are unbeaten in the league so far although were smarting after a stinging 6-0 defeat by Norwich in the EFL Cup.

Hull made the better start but once they had settled, the Cherries looked the most threatening and Solanke was twice thwarted by Ingram in the first half, first from a header from a corner and then after he had gone past Jacob Greaves.

Tyler Smith - making his debut for Hull after signing from Sheffield United - saw a close-range effort deflected wide, while after the break Docherty found the woodwork from Lewie Coyle's cross.

But Bournemouth had a big chance to snatch the lead when Ingram presented the ball to Solanke, only for the keeper to redeem himself with another save.

Hull finished the game strongly and went close through Williams, but Bournemouth held on to preserve their unbeaten start.
