Bournemouth star Arnaut Danjuma is set to leave the Championship side in the coming days, with the Cherries reaching an agreement with La Liga outfit Villarreal over a £20m transfer for the Dutchman.
The 24-year-old has attracted plenty of interest from the Premier League and around Europe this summer, with giants Liverpool linked with a potential move for the winger.
But Fabrizio Romano reports that it is Villarreal who have won the race to sign Danjuma, having agreed a £20m fee with Bournemouth. The forward has also reached an agreement over a long-term contract that will run until the summer of 2026, and is set to fly out to Spain to complete a medical in the coming hours.
The Bournemouth winger enjoyed a stellar season in England's second tier last year, scoring 15 goals and notching seven assists in 33 league appearances. Despite his heroics, he was not able to help the Cherries gain promotion from the Championship, losing out in the playoff semi-finals to eventual winners Brentford.
Danjuma had made it clear that he held ambitions of returning to the Premier League, putting Bournemouth under pressure to sell their talisman. Liverpool were considering a bid for the Dutchman, as they began to prepare for a future after front trio Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.
A move to Anfield never materialised however, and Danjuma's attention turned to Spain. Villarreal have capitalised on their recent success of lifting the Europa League trophy by splashing £20m on the Bournemouth star, hoping that his arrival will help them to compete in the upper echelons of La Liga and in the Champions League.
The Cherries have already moved on with the new season without Danjuma, with the highly-rated winger not selected for either of their opening two Championship fixtures. New coach Scott Parker will be aiming to bring them back to the Premier League this year, having suffered relegation with Fulham last season.
