Bramble hails John Mensah impact

Published on: 15 August 2010

Sunderland's new defender Titus has hailed John Mensah as a 'fantastic defender' after playing alongside the Ghana deputy captain in their first Premier League game of the season on Saturday.

Bramble made his debut for the Black Cats, but was left to rue two late goals as Blues took a point from the season-opening clash.

Bramble helped fend off Birmingham City's attacking threat alongside John Mensah, who rejoined the club on loan from Lyon last week.

Mensah put in a superb display at centre back and Bramble admitted he's a big fan, saying the imposing Ghanaian is living up to his reputation.

And he also described himself as "delighted" with his welcome from a near-40,000 crowd inside the Stadium of Light.

"John was fantastic," Bramble admitted.

"I'd heard a lot about him and he proved everything people have been saying about him right today.

"He is a fantastic defender.

"I was delighted with my reception. The fans have been brilliant with me all pre-season and it was the same today.

To say John's performance yesterday was fantastic will be somewhat an understatement. He was simply AWESOME! All his qualities as a World class central defender were in display in a Sunderland outfit over-streched by the sending off of Catermole early in the match. There were times when I feared he was going to get injured because he was working so hard he was over-streching himself. It was clear he wanted to pay back the faith Steve Bruce and Sunderland have shown in him. Wish him all the best and May God protect him from injuries and May He continue to give him strength.

John is yet to display his qualities at the stadium of light and in EPL in general. This is somebody who suffered the whole of last season but kept the faith and gave a strong display for Ghana at the just ended world cup. Well, the new season is here and all the kindness you showered on the little children at the Tamale orphanage is going to spring back to you on the field of play. Watch Mr. Mensah this season and the great performances he's going to display. Yes.......he is skilfull and strong but the what he is offering now is bigger than the deputy captain of the Black Stars. Keep it up CAPITO!

If this comment was not from Titus Bramble then it would mean something, anyone who knows Titus Bramble will know what I am saying, although Titus is improving.

Ha ha ha, Saba that's very funny. But I don't care if he sports a Mohican a Watusi hair cut as long as he played as he did yesterday. I think Ghana is very lucky to have him.
