Brattan’s Contract With Wanderers Came Just Before Sydney FC

Published on: 28 October 2019

Luke Brattan could have played against the Sky Blues in Saturday night’s Sydney derby if the approach from Sydney FC had not been so late. Brattan was apparently attempted to be lured into joining Western Sydney Wanderers during the off-season.

Luke happened to be proceeded towards by the Wanderers at the end of his last season spent in Melbourne city. The defensive midfielder was just entering the final six months of his contract as it seems.

The sought for a change of scenery is not too unfamiliar for Brattan as he actively tried to search for something new after having spent three years in Melbourne. The Wanderers, reportedly, had submitted a contract offer in the early months of 2019. However, Luke turned down the possibility to move to Western Sydney as he kept half an eye on a possible move abroad.

Media response, as well as the feedback from new Australian sports betting websites on Luke’s decision, were positive since eventually, after a couple of months Brattan joined the Sky Blues. According to Luke, the opportunity to join Western Sydney earlier this year was as real as it could be, although he had not reflected much on that matter whatsoever ahead of Saturday night’s derby at Bankwest Stadium.

Priorities in Check

Luke declares that the transfer talks had been in action a long time ago and he is not really willing to think about the past now. He claims to be extremely happy and expresses full readiness to give his all in every game.

According to him, being a footballer inherently prompts you to talk to a lot of clubs but presently, he is a Sydney FC player and he would do anything for his team at the moment. He insists on not thinking much about Western Sydney as the offers from the latter being left in the past. Brattan blatantly loves being where he is and he even says that the staff and his team members are fantastic and supportive.

It seems like Brattan was previously envious of the success of Sydney FC, hearing all about it from his friends and former teammates. This could be the reason why he single-handedly jumped at the opportunity to sign with Sydney, in turn ignoring the interest he had from the Middle East and Turkey.

Brattan goes on to add that he was involved in numerous talks with the variety of A-League clubs for quite some time. However, things changed when Joshy Brillante left Sydney and the club had to start searching for the substitute.

When they came to Luke with an offer, it was not hard for him to make a decision in particular. Moreover, if we consider the fact that Brattan had been closely observing the club being consistently successful over the past four or five years. As it seems, Luke was also influenced by friends who had nothing but positive feedback reserved for Sydney FC. Therefore, it makes perfect sense that through constant outside validation, Luke strongly desired to become a part of the club.

The midfielder is currently in the prime of his career and certainly has a lot to hope for. Brattan is looking forward to following in the footsteps of Sydney goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne and fullback Rhyan Grant, breaking into the Socceroos squad.

Future Plans

Although Brattan has called up for four World Cup qualifiers between the years 2015 and 2016, he has never actually made it off the bench. Since Mile Jedinak has retired and midfielder Mark Milligan appears to play in the backline more and more often, Brattan can surely hope to prove his worth for an Australian jersey by kicking off a strong season at the A-League champions.

Brattan adds that he has been playing a little bit higher up the last couple of years, thus the purity of being a present number six gives him the right to be hoping to get back into the swing of things.

As it seems, it has always been one of his biggest dreams to play for the Socceroos, and whether it happens next year or whenever does not make a big difference for him. Brattan finalizes his statement by saying that all he needs to do now is concentrate on winning things, playing well and putting out his best performance. Enjoying being on the field and playing with a smile on his face is after all the only things that really matter.
