Asamoah Gyan suffers injury in UAE, Ghana anxious

Published on: 30 December 2011

Ghana key striker Asamoah Gyan suffered what looked like a serious injury on Friday just three weeks before the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations starts in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

The in-form attacker  was taken off during his side Al Ain's 4-0 win over Emirates in the UAE top-flight game.

There is now the race to find out if Gyan will be fit for the Nations Cup as Ghana will be counting on him for goals at the tournament.

Gyan put his side in the lead in the 6th minute after converting penalty.

But Al Ain medics were quick to call for his substitution on the half hour mark in what looked like a hamstring injury.

If he pulled a hamstring, he will be available to play a part at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.

But any break in his bones will completely rule him out of the tournament which will be a damaging blow to the Black Stars.

Ghana will start their camping in South Africa on 7 January in preparation for the tournament.

Gyan was expected to join the squad the day camping opens but with this injury it is not known if he will be fit to arrive in time.
