BREAKING NEWS- LEGIA WARSAW charged by UEFA for fans\' violence

Published on: 16 September 2016

UEFA has charged Legia Warsaw with six offences after fans' violence in the Polish club's Champions League game against Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday.

Legia returned to Champions League after twenty years and the supporters had huge expectations but they ended to be defeated 6-0 by the German side.

A small but organised minority in the 28,000-strong crowd tried to attack the away fans, covering their faces and using pepper spray against security staff.

Also fireworks were heavily hused, at the same time objects were thrown. Furthemore, there were allegations of racism.

Legia issued a statement on the club website yesterday to apologise for their fans' behaviour but deny that the chants were anti-semitic.

The Polish club claimed they promised "strict consequences" for those Legia fans who "disrupted public order".

UEFA charged them with crowd disturbances, fireworks, throwing object, insufficient organisation, racist behaviour and blocking stairways.

Also Borussia Dortmund  was charged for their supporters' use of fireworks and throwing objects.

UEFA said the cases would be dealt with by its control, ethics and disciplinary panel on September 28.
