Mensah returns to Ghana starting line-up for Germany clash

Published on: 23 June 2010

Ghanasoccernet can exclusively reveal that deputy captain John Mensah has returned to Ghana's starting line-up for their clash against Germany on Wednesday evening.

Apart from Mensah, the squad will remain the same from the team that played Australia on Saturday which ended in the a 1-1 draw.

The Sunderland ace has returned from a minor injury scare to take the position of Lee Addy who played in his absence on Saturday.

This means Mensah will partner Jonathan Mensah as the heart of the Black Stars defence during the crucial game against the Germans.

His return also means that he will captain the Black Stars for the game as Richard Kingson led the team during Mensah's absence.

Mensah will captain the Black Stars because captain Stephen Appiah has once again been left on the bench with a high possibility of him coming on in the second half.

Isaac Vorsah the preferred centre-back partner for Vorsah has not been chosen because he has not recovered from a thigh injury.

So the Black Stars will start with Richard Kingson in post with John Pantsil and Hans Sarpei as the favoured right and left backs respectively.

At heart of the central defender are John Mensah and Jonathan Mensah while Anthony Annan and Kevin Prince Boateng will be in midfield.

The wingers will remain Prince Tagoe on the right and influential Dede Ayew on the left while Kwadwo Asamoah will play just behind striker Asamoah Gyan.

Ghana just needs a draw to be assured of a place in the last 16 while Germany need a win to be guaranteed of their place.

Ghana line-up: Richard Kingson, John Paintsil, Hans Sarpei, John Mensah, Jonathan Mensah, Anthony Annan, Kevin Prince Boateng, Prince Tagoe, Kwadwo Asamoah, Asamoah Gyan, Dede Ayew
