Sports presenter in Ghana busted for narcotic drugs

A top sports presenter in Ghana has been arrested in Accra for the use and possession of narcotic drugs, Happy FM has reported.

The suspects were hiding in plain sight as they were just about a minute's drive from a police station.

Police on patrol duties spotted suspicious movement around the Ridge Area in Accra on Monday morning where hardened criminals were suspected to be hiding.

They called for armed reinforcement before raiding the hide-out where it was discovered that illegal drugs were being used, the radio station reported.

Eight people were arrested and  it was reported that marijuana, cocaine and heroin were seized during the raid, along with some firearms.

Among those arrested was the popular sports radio and television broadcaster (name withheld) and took him and the others to the Nima Police Station where they are currently being questioned.

"We can confirm that a sports presenter is among some suspects arrested this morning following a routine patrol in the capital," DSP Prempeh the commander for operations for the Nima Police Station told journalists.

"Some illegal substances were found and all those involved were arrested by the strong team of police personnel on duty.

"Our investigators are carrying out furthers investigations and we will interrogate them we decide on the next line of action."

When news of the arrest of the popular presenter emerged, over 30 journalists visited the Nima Police Station for the story of the arrest of the suspects with the sports presenter's arrest being a key talking point.

The revelation has shocked sports fans who also visited the police station to sympathize with the suspect

The suspects are to be arraigned before court on Tuesday.
