BREAKING: Thomas Muller signs new contract with Bayern Munich until 2023

Published on: 07 April 2020

Thomas Muller has agreed on a two-year contract extension with Bayern Munich until 30 June 2023.

A native of Upper Bavaria, Müller came to the German record champions from his home club TSV Pähl at the age of 10. He subsequently appeared for all FC Bayern’s junior teams and has been a permanent member of the professional squad since 2009.

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge: "I’m pleased that Thomas Müller has extended his contract by a further two years until 30 June 2023. I would like to thank Thomas and his advisor Ludwig Kögl for the very trusting and fair talks. Oliver and Hasan have done a great job.”

Hasan Salihamidzic: "I’m happy that we’ve reached agreement with Thomas. Thomas is a special player for us, a figurehead for the club and our fans, a leader who shows the way on the pitch and has achieved a lot with FC Bayern. We know how important he is for us, but Thomas also knows what FC Bayern means to him. It just fits, we didn't need lengthy talks and we’re all happy it’ll continue like this until 2023.”

Oliver Kahn: "We’re glad we’re keeping a figurehead like Thomas Müller at the club. He’s shaped the club for more than ten years with his great football and his likeable personality. His successes with FC Bayern and the German national team have made Thomas famous around the world. And with his easy manner, he conveys a lot of what FC Bayern stands for, and wants to stand for, out into the world.”

With Bayern, Thomas Müller has won eight German championships (2010, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019), and the DFB Cup (2010, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2019) and the DFL Supercup (2010, 2012, 2016, 2017, 2018) five times each. He also won the Champions League, the FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Supercup in 2013.

With Germany, he won the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Four years earlier, he came third with his national team at the World Cup in South Africa and won the awards as top scorer and best young player at the tournament.

With 10 goals and 18 assists in the current season, he has played a major role in ensuring that FC Bayern, as league leaders, are promisingly positioned in the championship. This season Müller joined the elite group of players who have made over 500 competitive appearances for Bayern.
