Brighton and Hove Albion defender Tariq Lamptey has completed his nationality switch and is set to make his Ghana debut before the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The 21-year-old arrived in the West African country to spend time with his family and watched Black Stars' 2023 AFCON qualifier against Madagascar in Cape Coast on Wednesday.

Lamptey asked England U-21 coach Lee Carsley to be left out of the squad for the European U-21 Championship qualifying games because he is weighing up his international future.

According to Sports World Ghana, the leadership of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) have had fruitful discussions with the  right-back and his family and would be named in coach Otto Addo’s next squad in September for the 2023 AFCON qualifiers double-header tie against Angola.

Lamptey, who is also in Ghana for his charity works donated jerseys and other football apparel to kids in Nuaso near Odumase Krobo in the Eastern Region of Ghana through the Tariq Lamptey Foundation in 2020 and will be doing the same this year.
