Bristol City held to goalless draw by Preston

Preston keeper Daniel Iversen dives at the feet of Bristol City's Chris Martin to prevent a goal

Bristol City were left frustrated by Preston North End, as they were held to a goalless draw at Ashton Gate in the Championship to extend their wait for a home win.

Sean Maguire came closest to breaking the deadlock at the end of the first half for the visitors, as he hit the underside of the bar after 39 minutes, before shooting wide a few minutes later.

The home side had the better opportunities in the second half, with Han-Noah Massengo and Andreas Weimann among those who saw chances go awry, but neither side could produce the end product.

For Nigel Pearson's Bristol City, it means their run of matches at home without a win now extends to 13.

The visitors started the better of the two sides, and forced City keeper Daniel Bentley into making an early save after just two minutes.

Chris Martin and Weimann paired up neatly for the home team as they built into the first half, but could not find the back of the net with their chances and it was Preston who ended the first half on the front foot.

Maguire first saw a shot bounce off the bar, and was then picked out by Daniel Johnson but his attempt flew across the goal before going wide.

The Robins exerted some pressure on Preston at the start of the second half, which livened up the home fans, and very nearly took the lead through 20-year-old Frenchman Massengo. His long-range shot was only just saved by the fingertips of Preston keeper Daniel Iversen.

But that moment of magic was missing for both teams, who shared possession and chances fairly evenly and had to end the match sharing the points, too.
