Brutal assessment for Ghanaian striker Ekuban despite his Leeds United debut heroics - 'Not good enough'
Caleb Ekuban celebrates his goal for Leeds United

Top Leeds United writer Harry Sykes has offered a brutal assessment of Ghanaian striker Caleb Ekuban despite scoring on his debut for the club insisting 'he’s not the finished article yet'.

Sykes, who writes on Elland Road matters, said  'poor control or a weak finish meant he nearly ended up without a goal'.

Leeds came through their Carabao Cup first round match against Port Vale emphatically with a 4-1 victory with Ekuban scoring and setting up another.

While supporters of Leeds United hailed their news striker, the writer said even though there are some good qualities in the striker he must improve.

''Caleb Ekuban looked a handful in the opposition box and has got the presence a modern-day striker needs," Sykes wrote.

"Unfortunately, on today’s evidence he’s not the finished article yet. And at 23 he really should be.

"Ekuban had a number of half-chances but poor control or a weak finish meant he nearly ended up without a goal – and didn’t really look like getting one until the 82nd minute.

"It’s harsh to judge a striker on one game, but this was a great chance to show what he could do, against the sort of defence you won’t find in the Championship.

"And at times it was really painful to watch.

"On this evidence, if Chris Wood is injured or suspended, then Leeds will have a problem.

"To be fair he picked up towards the end and got his goal, so he deserves at least one more chance to prove himself."
