Buffon: I wish I'd had the chance to play alongside Cristiano Ronaldo at Juventus

Former Juventus captain Gianluigi Buffon admitted that he regrets not having the opportunity to line up alongside current Bianconeri forward Cristiano Ronaldo.

The veteran goalkeeper ended a 17-year stint with Juventus last summer to join French champions Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer, shortly before Ronaldo completed his highly-publicised switch to Turin from Real Madrid.

“I would have liked to have played with Cristiano Ronaldo, he is one of the best in the world,” Buffon told Esporte Deportivo.

“I have played alongside so many great champions in my career but it is not always possible to play with all the best, otherwise I would have had to change team almost every season.

“My choice to join PSG has allowed me to continue my career in a new path. There is a high level of professionalism here and a good project, as well as the phenomenal skills of Neymar and [Kylian] Mbappe.”

Having joined from Parma in 2001, Buffon made 646 appearances for Juventus and won nine Serie A titles.
