After a complicated 2020/2021 season, during which he was loaned to AS Saint-Etienne for six months, Anthony Modeste, who scored a double in the draw between his team and Union Berlin (2-2 ) on Sunday, is reborn from his ashes at the start of the year with Cologne.

In an interview with Bild, the 33-year-old striker spoke about his return to form with the current 11th in the Bundesliga: “It's simple: it's been a long time since I had done full preparation. Before this season, I was finally back from start to finish. It is very important for professionals. It was also important for me to come out without injury.”

With 10 goals and 1 assist in 12 matches between the Bundesliga and the German Cup, the former French international hopefuls (16 caps, 6 goals) also confided in his relationship with his coach Steffen Baumgart, who arrived on the Banc des Boucs this summer:

“He understood me. He sees that I am working. He trusts me and lets me play. And I reimburse every coach who trusts me. But don't get me wrong: I don't get anything for free here. I am always honest. If something doesn't suit me, I say so. Baumgart told me what he expected of me. And I told him what I wanted from him. During this conversation, I realized that he was someone I would go to war with. ”
