BUNDES - Dortmund to appeal to UEFA against Hummels red card

Officials from Borussia Dortmund announced on Thursday that they will take their case to UEFA, the regulatory body of European football, over Mats Hummels' red card in this week's Champions League loss to Ajax.

Hummels, 32, was sent off after a poor tackle on Ajax attacker Antony only 29 minutes into Dortmund's home defeat on Wednesday.

Michael Oliver, an English referee, consulted the video assistant referee but did not review the footage and stood by his decision.

"This is a total injustice, we feel punished enough by the outcome of the match," managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke told AFP subsidiary SID.

"We appeal to UEFA's sense of justice - to set an example here and not punish the player as well."
