Julian Nagelsmann was beaten for the first time as Bayern Munich coach on Sunday, as Eintracht Frankfurt secured a 2-1 away win with a late goal from Filip Kostic.
Seven minutes from time, Kostic blasted a low shot past Manuel Neuer to give Frankfurt their first win in Munich in almost two decades and deliver Bayern their first loss of the season.
Soon after the hour mark, Lewandowski came close to restoring the advantage, but Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp saved him with a superb reaction stop from point-blank range.
It was the first of Trapp's heroics in the second half, which kept Frankfurt in the game until Kostic's goal sealed Bayern's destiny.
Despite dominating Frankfurt for the majority of the game, Bayern lost their first league home game since 2019 and are currently only one point ahead of Borussia Dortmund in the table.
"It always hurts to lose, but this defeat hurts a bit more because it was avoidable," Nagelsmann told DAZN broadcaster.
"We were punished today for not taking our chances."
