BUNDESLIGA - Crisis at Van Bommels VfL Wolfsburg after six matches

Published on: 17 October 2021

Mark van Bommel got off to a flying start with VfL Wolfsburg with four victories in the first four Bundesliga matches, but has since fallen back considerably. The Dutch coach unfortunately lost on Saturday and somewhat against the proportions of Union Berlin (2-0), but does not want to know anything about a crisis despite three defeats in a row.

During the press conference, he was asked about the situation at VfL Wolfsburg. Van Bommel's team had more ball possession, more shots and was more dangerous than the home team and the Dutch coach also saw that his team had given little away despite the two goals against. "We are doing the same as in the initial phase of the competition, but the results are now significantly different," says Van Bommel, who thinks the lesser results are mainly a lack of effectiveness.

"I'm disappointed we didn't win again, but you shouldn't deviate from your plan." 1899 Hoffenheim (3-1), Borussia Mönchengladbach (1-3) and Feyenoord opponent Union Berlin (2-0) were too strong for Van Bommel in the Bundesliga in the last few weeks. In between, the Ccampions League drew twice against Sevilla (1-1) and OSC Lille (0-0), although the Dutch coach had earned more in both matches.

Still, Van Bommel does not want to know anything about a crisis and states that time is especially needed to further develop his game system at die Wölfe. With number four SC Freiburg and number three Bayer Leverkusen on the program as the next two opponents, a tough program also awaits for the Dutch coach, who will play against RB Salzburg in the Champions League midweeks.
