CAF CL: Asante Kotoko to hold final training session today ahead of Al Hilal clash

Published on: 05 January 2021

Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko will later today hold their final training session at the Al-Hilal Stadium, in Omdurman ahead of the first round of the CAF Champions League second leg against Al-Hilal.

Asante Kotoko left Ghana on Sunday and arrived in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa where they spent the night before continuing the journey to Sudan on Monday.

The team arrived in the Sudanese capital on Monday with a 22-man contingent comprising of players, technical team and management.

As per the CAF rules governing competitions, the away side must train at the match venue 24 hours to the game, thus Asante Kotoko will get the opportunity to train at the Astro-turf pitch.

The Ghana Premier League giants suffered a 1-0 defeat in the first leg at the Accra Sports Stadium thanks to a second-half strike from Vinny Bongonga which handed Al Hilal an advantage heading into the second leg.

The Porcupine Warriors have an uphill task to overturn the result in the second leg or face elimination from this year’s CAF Champions League.

According to the stats, no Ghanaian side has ever overturned a first-leg deficit at home to a Sudanese side.

The game comes off on Wednesday at the Al-Hilal Stadium in Omdurman.
