Ghana legend Abedi Pele will have to wait for four years to have any hopes of fighting for an executive committee position within the Confederation of African Football (Caf).
This comes after Cafââ¬â¢s deadline for the submission of nomination for the West Africa ââ¬ËBââ¬â¢ slot ended on Tuesday night.
The Maestro was relying on a strong government intervention for him to be presented as the candidate of the Ghana Football Association.
But the GFA insisted that they wanted their own candidate Kwesi Nyantakyi to fight next yearââ¬â¢s election on behalf of the Ghana federation.
Despite the GFAââ¬â¢s rejection of government overtures, aides close to Abedi were hoping that a behind-the-scenes negotiation could have seen Nyantakyi amicably stepping aside for the revered player.
But that failed to see the light of day until call the deadline for the submission of nomination papers elapsed.
This means Abedi will have to wait for another four years to have any hopes of representing the country when the next elections are due.
Nyantakyi will fight for the slot at the Caf congress in Sudan in February.
