CAF president Ahmad Ahmad mourns the demise of ex-Olympique Marseille president Pape Diouf

CAF president Ahmad Ahmad has paid tributes to former Olympique Marseille president Pape Diouf, who passed on in Dakar, Senegal on Tuesday night.

Diouf gave up the ghost after succumbing to the deadly coronavirus. The 68-year-old Senegalese had been on a respiratory support since Saturday.

Ahmad took to Twitter to mourn the death of Diouf.

The astute African football administrator, was president of the French giants Marseille between 2005 to 2009 becoming the first black man to lead a top European football team.

Diouf was also the CEO of the club in 2004.

The former journalist at La Marseillaise in the 1980s, was also a successful football agent from the 1990s, representing top African players like Joseph-Antoine Bell, Marcel Desailly, Basile Boli, William Gallas, Samir Nasir, Didier Drogba amongst others.

After leaving Marseille in 2009, he became a sought-after speaker in sports conferences.
