Two times Africa Cup of Nations winner and ex-Cameroon captain Geremi Njitap is surprised the Black Stars have been eliminated from the tournament in his home country.

The four times African champions exited the tournament at the group stage, the first time since 2006 in Egypt.

Njitap who was speaking to Willie Graham of GTV, expressed disappointment as he struggled to identified the problem with the Black Stars.

"Very disappointed because as a former player, I know Ghana used to be favourites most of the times at AFCON. It's very surprising and disappointing that they have been knocked out at the first round," he said.

"I don't know what happened because I am not the only one surprised but also many fans from Ghana. I will speak with my friend Tony (Baffoe), he is with the team and can give me a good reason for what happened.

"When you look at the squad Ghana has, it's surprising that they have been knocked out."

Meanwhile, Njitap is confident the Indomitable Lions will claim their sixth AFCON title on home soil.

"I prefer Cameroon go to the final, we don't care who will be there. You go to the final to win and Cameroon will be their to win it," he concluded.
