Cannavaro: I want to be Italy coach

Published on: 22 March 2016

Former Italy captain, Fabio Cannavaro, has revealed his desire to be the next coach of the Azzurri, claiming that his vast footballing experience should give him an advantage over other candidates.

Having guided the Italian national side to World Cup success in 2006, Cannavaro has since coached sides outside out Europe, although he is adamant that he has the necessary characteristics to take over the Italian helm.

“I would like to become the head coach of the national side,” said Cannavaro to Sky Sport Italia. “It is a difficult task but I have the right experience and I had been in that environment for 15 years.”

This latest update comes after Antonio Conte’s confirmation that he will leave his post after the forthcoming European Championships this summer, with a switch to Chelsea looking increasingly likely.

During Cannavaro’s decorated career, he won domestic titles with both Juventus and Real Madrid, whilst also making an outstanding 136 appearances for Italy
