The stadium in Sogakope was fully packed with fans

The Ghana Premier League showed promising signs of revival as there was a capacity crowd for the season's opener between giants Asante Kotoko and WAFA at the Red Bull Arena in Sogakope on Saturday.

There are fears that interest in the local game is dying because of the lack of interest in the Ghana Premier League which has led to low attendances in recent years in the country.

And despite the doubts surrounding the commencement, a capacity crowd turned up at Sogakope on Saturday showing the interest in the game has not waned completely.

The standard of the match was also appreciable with both sides demonstrating the ability to spark the game in the country into life.

While it is too early to suggest that the opening match shows a complete revival, the hugely impressive attendance bodes well for Ghanaian football.
