Carlo Ancelotti insists Real Madrid must 'respect' Kylian Mbappe decision

Carlo Ancelotti has insisted Real Madrid must 'respect' Kylian Mbappe's last-minute decision to snub a move to Santiago Bernabeu.

Real had been confident of signing Mbappe for some time, having narrowly missed out on a deal last summer.

Despite this, the forward will be staying at Paris Saint-Germain for the foreseeable future, penning fresh terms until 2025 over the weekend.

Speaking before his side's Champions League final against Liverpool on Saturday, Ancelotti emphasised that Real must move on quickly from the saga.

"It's pretty clear to us what we have to think about. We respect the decisions made by all clubs," he said.

"Now, we have to concentrate on preparing well for the Champions League final."

Pressed on the issue a second time Ancelotti said: "I have never talked about a player who is not at Madrid and I never will."

Mbappe himself has not ruled out a move to Real in the future, but his eleventh-hour change of heart has left the club seething.

For now, Los Blancos will be focused on ending the season on a high. They have enjoyed a remarkable run to the Champions League final this year, completing famous comebacks against Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Manchester City to reach this stage.

"Whoever deserves to win deserves it for the final," Ancelotti added.

"In these qualifying rounds we have deserved to arrive. No one thought so. I am not saying that we have displayed great quality in these games. But no one has beaten us in commitment and motivation.

"To win the Champions League you have to play well and have the same commitment and motivation."
