Carpi v Juventus – Preview: Bianconeri look to end year on high against struggling Biancorossi

Published on: 19 December 2015

Juventus will be looking to continue their fine form as they travel to Emilia-Romagna to take on Carpi.

The home side, after having a relatively positive start to the season, have won just one of their last nine Serie A game, which was the 2-1 victory away at Genoa. Carpi did, however, secure a famous and historic win in midweek as they beat Fiorentina 1-0 in Florence in the Coppa Italia to reach the quarter finals of the competition for the first time in their history.

The Bianconeri, meanwhile, are the form team in Italy having won their last six games in Serie A. Juventus have also re-found their scoring boots in that time, scoring at least two goals in five of those six matches. Their latest victory in Serie A was an impressive 3-1 win at home against fellow high flyers Fiorentina. Juventus took their fine form into the Coppa Italia as they hammered city rivals Torino 4-0 in the last 16 of the Coppa Italia in midweek.

These two teams have never played each other before in Serie A as this is Carpi’s first year in Italy’s top flight.

Carpi have a trio of injured players who will be unavilable for the game against Juventus, with Matteo Fedele, Igor Bubnjic and Wallace all out. After the midweek win against Fiorentina, coach Fabrizio Castori may rotate his side with attacking duo Marco Borriello and Ryder Matos likely to start.

Juventus meanwhile have fewer injury concerns with just Roberto Pereyra and Mario Lemina doubts for Massimiliano Allegri to worry about. Both Alvaro Morata and Simone Zaza impressed in the win against Torino in midweek, however, the usual front pair of Paulo Dybala and Mario Mandzukic are expected to start against Carpi.
