Carpi v Palermo – Preview: Biancorossi look to extend unbeaten streak against Rosanero

Published on: 30 January 2016

Carpi host Palermo at the Stadio Alberto Braglia in Serie A on Saturday with the Biancorossi looking to build on recent positive results in their fight against relegation.

Last season’s Serie B winners have enjoyed a revival of late after a disastrous start to the season and find themselves 18th in the standings, five points behind Sampdoria and six points behind Saturday’s visitors, who are 14th in the table.

Recent good results have seen Fabrizio Castori’s men beat Udinese and Sampdoria and draw with Lazio and Inter to go four games unbeaten, with their last defeat coming in a narrow 3-2 loss to Juventus.

Palermo meanwhile have had an indifferent season and have suffered eleven league defeats, the same number as the Biancorossi, however they have picked up three more victories than their opponents.

Giovanni Tedesco will take charge of the Sicilian side for the game as the man who recently replaced Davide Ballardini, Argentine Guillermo Barros Schelotto, has yet to have the necessary paperwork verified in order to coach in Serie A.

In terms of recent form, the Rosanero have won just three games from their last nine with only one of those coming away from home, however they registered a convincing 4-1 victory over Udinese in their last game to bounce back from a 4-0 humbling at the hands of Genoa the previous week.

When the two sides met in September at the Stadio Renzo Barbera, the game finished in a 2-2 draw thanks to a late equaliser from the Rosenero’s Serbian forward Uros Djurdjevic.

With Carpi competing in Serie A for the first time, the sides have only had two previous meetings prior to this campaign, both of which were Serie B games that were won by the Biancorossi in the 2013-14 season.

The scores of those games were 1-0 and 2-1, and on both occasions Palermo were reduced to ten men after having a man sent off.

In team news, the hosts are without injured midfielder Matteo Fedele and defender Gaetano Letizia, while Lorenzo Pasciuti is serving a one-game suspension.

The visitors meanwhile have no suspensions to worry about but are missing midfielder Francesco Bolzoni through injury.
