Casemiro 'signed new contract until 2023 with deal being struck months ago'

Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro has reportedly signed a new contract at the club until 2023, with the deal being struck months ago.

The Brazilian has been a first-team regular for a number of years now, and this season has made 35 appearances for Zinedine Zidane's side in all competitions.

And now, according to Spanish outlet MARCA, the club have tied the defensive midfielder down to another three years at the club, though have opted against making contract renewals public knowledge.

Casemiro has been at the club since 2013, but had to bide his time to be a first-ream regular.

He was loaned out to Portuguese side Porto for the 2014-2015 season, but as Zidane took charge of the team in his first stint, Casemiro's presence steadily rose.

The 28-year-old has played his part in an effective midfield trio, alongside Toni Kroos and Luka Modric, which won three consecutive Champions League crowns from 2016-2018, as well as the 2017 La Liga title.

The Brazilian, not known for his goalscoring abilities, scored the crucial second goal in Madrid's 4-1 victory against Juventus in the 2017 Champions League final in Cardiff.

Last summer, it was reported that Ligue 1 champions PSG were interested in signing Casemiro.

But a potential deal did not come to fruition and any rumours about a move in the near future have seemingly now been put to bed with this contract news.

Casemiro also has 44 caps for Brazil, scoring three goals, and was part of the national side which won last year's Copa America on home soil.
