Ghana defender Boye scores in Rennes defeat to Evian in France

Ghana defender John Boye scored for Rennes but they were thoroughly defeat 4-2 by Rabiu Mohammed's Evian 4-2 in the French top-flight on Saturday.

Rennes' sixth defeat in eight ensures confidence will be low when they take on Saint-Etienne in next Saturday's Coupe de la Ligue final.

In the second minute Jean-Armel Kana-Biyik turned an innocuous looking Brice Dja Djédjé cross into his own net.

Dja Djédjé couldn't believe his luck on his Evian return after two months out.

Rennes equalised in the 22nd minute through their captain Julien Féret.

Rennes, who hadn't scored in their last three Ligue 1 games, briefly raised hopes of avoiding a fourth straight away loss when Boye headed home Féret's corner for Rennes' second equaliser.

Féret and Boye had chances to give Rennes the lead for the first time before a series of defensive mistakes from the visitors approaching the final ten minutes allowed Milos Ninkovic to net his first Ligue 1 goal since he joined Evian on loan from Dynamo Kyiv.

Yannick Sagbo crossed from the right and Ninkovic was blissfully unmarked at the back post to score.

Mohammed was instrumental in Evian's strong showing in the match as his presence in their midfielder has ensured that they have now won four of their last seven matches.
