Schalke playmaker Kevin-Prince Boateng says they are "delighted with an excellent team performance" after defeating Steaua Bucuresti 3-0 in their Champions League opener.
Atsuto Uchida's fortuitous opener broke the dam in an otherwise close encounter.
Boateng capping a man-of-the-match showing with Schalke's second and Julian Draxler adding a late third.
Steaua's Lukasz Szuka?a agreed that the unorthodox breakthrough had thrown the visitors, but believed the scoreline was an unfair reflection of an otherwise positive display.
"We've got every reason to be satisfied with the 3-0 victory and the clean sheet. Everyone in the dressing room is delighted with an excellent team performance," Boateng told UEFA.com
"We knew it was going to be a tough game and discussed it in our pre-match meeting. I know Steaua from playing them with Tottenham and Hertha and I remember them being very aggressive, but we did a good job tonight.
"The first goal opened the game up because Steaua had to come at us and that afforded us more room. I ran into the box and I think 'Uschi' wanted to pick me out but it ended up going straight in. It doesn't matter how it goes in as long as we get the win.
"Basel beating Chelsea is what the Champions League is all about. Anyone can beat anyone at this level, that's why theyââ¬â¢re here. We know we've got some difficult games coming up, but we're prepared."
