Marseille striker Jordan Ayew was involved in a training ground bust-up with team-mate Mathieu Valbuena on Thursday after the Ghanaian poked fun at the French striker who reacted badly to the joke.
Reports say the two players almost came to blows at the Robert Louis-Dreyfus training centre in the afternoon.
Ayew made fun of Valbuena after the France playmaker missed a free throw and he furious replied by saying "shut up" to the Ghana international.
There was a heated verbal exchange between the two before they squared up to one another, with Valbuena particularly aggrieved about what was said.
Tempers rose and the two men were separated by the their teammates which prevented a confrontation.
There is a bit of disquiet in Marseille after recent defeats in the Ligue 1 and in the UEFA Champions League.
Marseille travel to Rennes on Saturday.
