Celta Vigo ready to offer escape for AC Milan exile

After losing his place in the AC Milan starting line up to Gianluigi Donnarumma, a return to Spain could be on the cards for Diego Lopez as Celta Vigo look the favourites to land the veteran shot-stopper.

The Spaniard managed just eight matches at the beginning of the Serie A season, with coach Sinisa Mihajlovic opting for then 16 year-old Donnarumma after the Spaniard failed to register a single clean sheet.

Now however it seems an exit for Lopez could be on the horizon, with La Liga side Celta Vigo the favourites to land his signature followed closely by Deportivo La Coruna according to Spanish paper AS.

Lopez was recruited on a free transfer from Real Madrid two years ago, cementing his position between the sticks with 28 Serie A appearances but keeping just five clean sheets.

Spanish sides still hold the 34 year-old in high regard, with his five year spell at Villarreal establishing his reputation in La Liga and prompting his move to Madrid.

Celta Vigo are understood to be in pole position for Lopez, as they seek to provide competition for first choice keeper Sergio Alvarez.
