Former Ghanaian international Charles Sampson has been named the new head coach of the national U20 women’s football team, the Black Princesses.

His appointment will see him lead the team through the qualifiers for the 2025 FIFA Women’s U20 World Cup.

Born on November 24, 1980, Sampson enjoyed a successful football career both locally and abroad. He began with GHAPOHA FC in the Ghana Premier League before moving to Greece, where he played for clubs such as Kalamata FC, Apollon Kalamarias, OFI Crete, Panegialios, and Fostriras.

His European journey continued in Sweden, where he joined Assyriska Föreningen in 2004, helping them secure promotion to the Allsvenskan. He later featured for clubs including Bodens BK, IFK Lulea, Syrianska Botkyrka, and Afrikansk.

After retiring, Sampson transitioned to coaching, starting with Assyriska United Girls U15 before managing Swedish Women’s League side Telge United FC. His return to Ghana saw him serve as an assistant coach for the Black Queens, the senior women’s national team.

Sampson’s coaching team for the Black Princesses includes Fiifi Parker Hanson, head coach of Golden Kicks FC, and Anita Wiredu-Mintah, who continues her role as an assistant coach. Together, they aim to guide the team to success on the global stage.
