Charlton manager Chris Powell was very impressed by Arsenal loanee Emmanuel Frimpong’s performance on his debut against Huddersfield.

The 20-year-old was withdrawn midway through the second half of the 1-1 draw at The Valley, but Powell revealed his injury is not serious and expects him to feature against Peterborough on Tuesday.

“He had ‘Championship cramp’, as I call it,” said Powell.

Frimpong is on loan at Charlton until New Year’s Day as he look stake a claim for a future in the Gunners’ first team.

“He had to get used to the pace of it, but I have got to say I felt he was very, very good for the hour he was on,” added Powell.

“He showed his strength, he showed his attitude in going forward, his passing ability – he is a good player.

“I knew I was getting a good player from Arsenal and for his debut in those conditions, it wasn’t easy. I felt it was a very good performance.

“That can bode well for us. I am sure he will be fine for Tuesday [against Peterborough] and he put in a good hour of work for us.”
