Chelsea's Alvaro Morata had three penalty appeals turned down as Maurizio Sarri's men drew 0-0 against Everton at Stamford Bridge.
Everton had come into this game in good form, following a run of four wins in their past five matches while Chelsea maintained their unbeaten start to the season, despite failing to seal all three points, meaning Sarri has set a new record of not losing any of his first 12 Premier League matches.
Chelsea named Eden Hazard in his starting line-up for the first time in the Premier League since Oct. 20, while Marco Silva handed a first start to summer arrival Yerry Mina -- and the two were involved in the game's first talking point on 22 minutes.
The Colombia international went in full blooded for a tackle with Hazard running towards him. He got the ball, but his trailing leg caught the Belgium international and Mina picked up a yellow card.
Chelsea dominated possession in the early stages but were unable to carve any real openings as Everton's rearguard stayed firm, and they were largely restricted to efforts from long range. Chelsea left-back Marcos Alonso whipped a free kick just past the post, before seeing a half volley saved by Jordan Pickford.
Morata had the first of his day's penalty appeals turned down just before half-time as he went to ground from minimal contact from Lucas Digne following the former Real Madrid forward's failure to control a pass; before Bernard and Antonio Rudiger were both booked for going nose to nose as the first 45 minutes came to a close.
After the restart, the hosts began to really take control of proceedings and Pickford was called into action on a much more regular basis and was immediately forced to parry a Morata effort wide..
Morata's second penalty shout came on 58 minutes -- and this was far stronger. Willian knocked a ball to the back post and Mina appeared to have his arms all over the Spaniard as he failed to make contact with the cross.
Hazard began finding more space in the second half and had an effort tipped over the bar before firing wide on 74 minutes; and Morata's third penalty appeal came moments later after he was bundled over by Michael Keane -- though the flag was up for offside.
Sarri then sent on former Everton midfielder Ross Barkley as he went in search of a breakthrough, and he was greeted with a chorus of boos from the visiting supporters.
But both sides had settle for a point, with Chelsea staying in third place and Everton remaining ninth.
