Chelsea great Drogba: Champions League goal so unexpected, but...

Published on: 14 April 2017

Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has said that he didn't expect to score the late equaliser against Bayern Munich in the 2012 Champions League final.

The Ivorian scored an unlikely headed goal in the 88th minute against the dominating Bayern side and eventually helped the Blues to a penalty-shootout win over the Germans in Munich.

"To have the chance to score that goal in that final, in the 88th minute, was unbelievable," he told the Premier League Show of Chelsea's first Champions League triumph.

"I think it was one of the goals you don't expect.

"Thank God Juan Mata was there to make me believe it. Two more minutes…and the rest is history."

Drogba also shed some light on his reputation as a big-game player.

"As a kid when I was playing on the streets or on a football field, I would say last free-kick, last header everything, but when I score we win," he added.

"When I got the chance to play in finals that was the spirit I had."
