"Chelsea needs time and patience"- Former player Michael Essien insists
LONDON, ENGLAND - NOVEMBER 12: Cole Palmer of Chelsea

Chelsea legend Michael Essien believes the London club will need 'time and patience' to return to their best form following mixed start to the new season.

The Blues have struggled since Roman Abramovic sold the club, with the new owners led by American Todd Boehly yet to win a silverware.

Last season, the two-time European champions finished six after a strong finish to the campaign and are way off favourites Manchester City and Arsenal in winning the league.

However, the ex-Chelsea midfielder remains confident the club will rediscover their form with time,

"I still follow them [Chelsea] and always watch the games whenever I can. I think it will take time and a lot of patience, but I’m sure they will get there," Essien told Joy Sports.

The former Ghana international has ventured into coaching since returning from football, and currently works with Danish outfit FC Nordsjaelland, where he plays a role in grooming young players into world-class stars.
