"Chelsea not desperate to replace Essien" - Emenalo

Newly installed sporting director at Chelsea FC Michael Emenalo says the club can cope without having to replace the midfielder Michael Essien.

The Ghana international has been ruled out for six-months following successful surgery to repair a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus in his right  knee.

As a result, Chelsea have been linked with a move for either Scott Parker or Cheik Tiote of West Ham and Newcastle United respectively.

However, Emenalo told Sky Sports News that the Blues will cope with Essien’s absence without necessarily needing to go into the transfer market.

"The squad is littered with world-class players and the idea of replacing someone or not replacing someone sounds a little bit ludicrous," he said.

"We have enough in the tank to get the job done. He (Essien) will be missed. Everyone knows he is an important part of Chelsea and a magnificent player in the side for the club and he still will be when he recovers but I don't think there is any panic or desperation to replace him.

"We will do just what a club of our ilk should do and find the right solution."
