Chelsea transfer round-up: Blues block loan exit, Tomori seals AC Milan move

Published on: 24 January 2021

Chelsea are expected to continue to offload players this month, while also keeping an eye on any potential signings for either the current transfer window or the summer.

Frank Lampard bought in a host of new faces last summer and there have been winners and loses as he sets about finding his best XI.

Thiago Silva and Kurt Zouma look to be his preferred pair at the back meaning others may move on.

Danny Drinkwater has already headed to Turkey on loan.

Lampard himself though is under pressure and will be all too aware about the lifespan of Chelsea managers after a terrible run of form put the spotlight on him.

Here's the latest transfer rumours coming out of Stamford Bridge.

Blues block loan exit

Chelsea have rejected a loan enquiry from West Ham for Emerson Palmieri.

The Hammers are looking to bring in a left-back this month to provide cover and competition for Aaron Cresswell with Arthur Masuaku sidelined through injury.

Masuaku is expected to be out until the end of February and Palmieri is seen as a good stop-gap.

He has fallen down the pecking order at Chelsea following Ben Chilwell’s arrival from Leicester, with Marcos Alonso also ahead of him.

But despite Palmieri’s lack of first-team opportunities, Chelsea have rejected West Ham's loan enquiry as Frank Lampard wants him around as cover with the Blues facing a heavy fixture load in the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup.

Tomori seals move to AC Milan

Out of favour defender Fikayo Tomori will spend the rest of this season with Serie A side AC Milan after sealing a loan move.

The England international has found game time hard to come by this term, with Thiago Silva and Kurt Zouma Lampard’s preferred pair at the back.

A Milan statement confirmed that the move can be made permanent in future too.

It read: “AC Milan is delighted to announce the signing of Oluwafikayomi Oluwadamilola Tomori on loan from Chelsea FC until the end of the season.

“The defender has signed a contract until June 30, 2021, but AC Milan have an option to make the deal permanent.”
