Chelsea's Essien to return for next Ghana game

Ghana midfielder Michael Essien will return to the Black Stars next competitive game in their African Cup of Nations qualifier against Congo.

The Chelsea enforcer has promised that his absence from the Ghana team is only temporary and the Ghana FA expects him to return early next year.

This means he will be available to play for the Black Stars in March when they travel to play Congo in Brazzaville.

The 27-year-old missed the World Cup because of a knee problem and did not play a part in Ghana's opening African Nations Cup qualifier in Swaziland last month.

That was the result of an agreement with the Ghana FA who had agreed with him to fight and regain his full fitness and cement his place in the Chelsea starting team.

The agreement of an early next year means when Ghana returns to the qualifiers Essien will be available to play for his country.
