Chiellini: Higuain called Juve paradise after joining us, I love this guy

Giorgio Chiellini remembers when Gonzalo Higuain found ‘paradise’ at Juventus when he signed from Napoli in 2016 but admits the striker can be ‘too’ sensitive.

Higuain has scored 63 goals in his three seasons with Juve’s first team, but his overall career has been marked by misses in big matches and moments when his emotions have poured on to the field.

“Gonzalo’s a stand-up guy. A great, demanding but great guy: he always needs to feel confidence around him,” wrote the defender in his new autobiography, ‘Io, Giorgio’.

“I love him, I like his Latino effusiveness. He’s my teammate and a sensitive person: this makes him ‘feel’ things a lot, maybe too much in some games.

“However, we’re made the way we are. We can only work with the raw materials that have been given to us by our parents.

“That means that we can do a lot, but not everything, and that imprinting carries a weight.

“I remember Higuain’s first few days in Turin. He could go out for a drink and was asked for maybe just two selfies.

“’This is paradise!’ Gonzalo repeated every day, a paradise made possible by the fact that Juventus are truly a family.”
