Chile coach Jorge Sampaoli is flattered with speculation he may join Roma but insists he has not had any contact with the Italian club.

The man who led Chile to the Coppa America title on home soil last year is keen to move on even though his contract does not expire until after the World Cup in Russia in 2018.

“No, I haven’t had any contact with Roma,” Sampaoli told Mediaset at the Ballon d’Or ceremony, where he finished third in the coach of the year category.

“They’re a great team, anyone would like to coach them, but I haven’t formally spoken to anyone.

“It is not true that I am going to Roma.”

Rudi Garcia’s position as coach of Roma has been under increasing pressure following poor recent performances, with the likes of Luciano Spalletti linked with the job and talk of Sampaoli potentially moving to the club will only fuel further speculation.
