Newcastle United winger Christian Atsu is the latest player from the continent to condemn  suggestion that Africans should used as 'guinea-pigs' for a possible Covid-19 vaccine.

The Ghana international has joined African football legends Samuel Eto’o and Didier Drogba in fury at two French medical practitioners, who made the remarks on television.

He posted on his Twitter account: ''During a programme on French television station LCI, professor Jean-Paul Mira, head of the intensive care unit at Cochin hospital (Paris), and Professor Camille Locht, research director at Inserm suggested the effectiveness of the vaccine should be tested first in Africa.

''They are not even ashamed of themselves. They want to test the new vaccine first in Africa.''

The coronavirus has infected over 1 million people worldwide and caused over 50,000 deaths.

Several vaccines and medications are being tested for possible use in the fight against the disease, which has caused lockdowns and brought an end to virtually all social, cultural and sporting activity around the world.
