Christian Atsu returns to training with Newcastle United after coronavirus break

Ghana winger Christian Atsu has returned to training with his Newcastle United teammates after the enforced break by coronavirus.

The midfielder joined other teammates in small groups to train as part of the first phase of the English Premier League Project Restart.

Players including Atsu, coaches and essential support staff have now been tested for Covid-19 at the training ground in conjunction with the Premier League's safety measures.

The Premier League was suspended in March due to the coronavirus outbreak but players of Newcastle United were engaged in individual training programmes at home over the past few weeks.

However, based on the latest government advice, and following a Premier League shareholders meeting, the Magpies have begun phase one of their return to small group training on Tuesday.

The English Premier League is expected to resume in June and completed in July, albeit under strict measures which includes playing behind closed doors.
