Christian Atsu staying grounded after Ghana debut success

Published on: 04 June 2012

Youngster Christian Atsu insists he has not yet landed a regular spot in the Ghana squad despite his impressive debut in the 7-0 demolition of Lesotho.

The 20-year-old came off the substitute bench to thrill fans in Kumasi with skills and capped his performance with a goal in Ghana's opening 2014 World Cup qualifier.

The FC Porto player recognizes he has to do more to secure a place in the squad.

"Black Stars team is not only with one performance or something like that. You have to try to always prove yourself," he told MTNFootball.com.

"So for me it is not only that game, what I have in mind is to continue to work for my nation always."

Atsu is a member of the Ghana squad preparing in Johannesburg, South Africa to play Zambia next Saturday.
